Philip is a partner in BarentsKrans’s Supreme Court department, specialising in civil Supreme Court litigation. Both national and international clients have been trusting in him for years with complex civil procedures. Acting as a Supreme Court attorney for, among others, real estate developers and investors, insurance companies, government authorities and international organisations, Philip has been handling complex matters for clients for many years. He litigates in various areas of law including property and liability law, government liability law, tenancy law, civil procedural law and international and European law. He has also litigated before the European Court of Justice on many occasions. In addition, he advises lawyers on the structure of their briefs in appeal proceedings with a view to maximising their chances of success and preparing them for proceedings before the Supreme Court. He also advises on the structure of their briefs after the Supreme Court refers cases back to the appeal courts.
Philip’s interest in legal-academic matters is wide-ranging and he publishes articles on civil procedure, property and liability law and government liability law. He holds a PhD from the Radboud University on government liability. He also edits two leading Dutch legal reference works: the Groene Serie Burgerlijke Rechtsvordering (‘Green Series on Civil Procedure’) and the Sdu Commentaar Vermogensrecht (‘Sdu Commentary on Proprietary Law’).
