Jan is an attorney-at-law and joined BarentsKrans in August 2023 in the IP & Technology team.
Jan has extensive experience in trademark, design and copyright law, particularly in the areas of fashion, FMCG, parallel trade and counterfeits. He also advises on media law, including advertising claims and unlawful publications. Jan’s clients are large multinationals from the food/beverage/fashion industry, as well as individual IP proprietors, such as authors, musicians and designers.
The focus of Jan’s practice is on litigation of complex, cross-border disputes. He has been involved in several landmark cases before the European Court of Justice, but also regularly litigates before the EUIPO, the Benelux Bureau of Intellectual Property as well as the Dutch courts.
Jan combines in-depth knowledge of IP and media law with a pragmatic and strategic approach. Between 2013 and 2020, Jan worked as an attorney-at-law before switching to a listed multinational in London for over three years. He uses his in-house experience to provide clients with clear and tailored advice, never losing sight of their specific wishes and commercial interests.
Jan regularly writes for (international) peer reviewed journals.
