Legal 500 has published the 2016 rankings. The publication ranked BarentsKrans as a Top Tier Firm in Employment recommends BarentsKrans in Commercial litigation, EU and Competition, Intellectual Property, Corporate and M&A, Real Estate and Healthcare & Life Sciences. The annual rankings are based on feedback from clients and peer reviews. Legal 500 is one of the most prominent guides on the international legal profession.

The Legal 500 2016

Employment: tier 1
Caroline van Gent heads up BarentsKrans’ department, which counts ABN Amro, PostNL and Canon among its clients. ‘Legendary’ ‘phenomenon’ Rogier Duk represented FNV before the European Court, and litigates for several major transport companies. Max Keulaerds is ‘outstanding’ while remaining ‘down to earth’.

Dispute resolution: commercial litigation: tier 2
BarentsKrans has a notable cartel damages practice and is also active in mass damages claims, where William Schonewille is a key figure. Rieme-Jan Tjittes, Rogier Duk and Jan-Paul Heering form the well-regarded Supreme Court practice

Industry focus Healthcare and life sciences: tier 2
BarentsKrans’ team is headed up by the ‘formidable’ and ‘tenacious’ Marleen van den Horst, with support from the ‘calm’, ‘brilliant’ and ‘astute’ Jaap Bremer. Its clients include Mylan, Actavis, Sun Pharmaceutical and Argos Zorggroep.

EU and competition: tier 3
BarentsKrans Joost Fanoy leads the team at BarentsKrans, which has a strong cartel damages practice and is noted for its ‘very good knowledge of key litigation issues’. Merger control and public procurement are also key features of the practice. Litigator Martijn van Maanen is recommended.

Intellectual property: tier 3
The ‘brilliant’ Jaap Bremer and ‘formidable’ practice head Marleen van den Horst of BarentsKrans are advising Allergan in a patent case against Les Laboratoires Servier. The team’s other clients include Exterion Media and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries; it is praised for its ‘practical’ and ‘commercial’ advice.

BarentsKrans recently advised longstanding client Infotheek on the takeover of Network2Day. Michiel Martin and associate Elze van der Minne are ‘very knowledgeable’ and ‘motivated’. Senior associate Anke van Holthe tot Echten joined from Loyens & Loeff.
