BarentsKrans is delighted to announce the hiring of two new partners: Martijn van der Vliet (banking & finance) and Homme ten Have (employment). Two members of Van der Vliet’s team will also join the firm. This expansion will further strengthen the firm’s expertise at its Zuidas office, which opens 1 November 2024.
Martijn van der Vliet was a partner at Buren Legal before he decided to join BarentsKrans. He is an expert in financial law, boasting over 16 years’ experience, and previously worked at Baker McKenzie, Houthoff, and NautaDutilh. Martijn advises banks and other financial institutions, and guides borrowers in financial transactions and restructurings. His primary focus is on national and international real estate finance, leveraged and acquisition finance and project finance, addressing a wide range of matters that require financial law expertise. Martijn also brings extensive knowledge of securitisations and receivables purchase transactions.
Van der Vliet starts at BarentsKrans on 1 November and is excited about his move: “In my practice, I work closely with colleagues across various disciplines, including M&A, real estate and notarial services. The outstanding quality that BarentsKrans offers in these disciplines is particularly interesting to me. The opening of the Zuidas office provides the perfect opportunity for me to join BarentsKrans and to further develop my banking & finance practice alongside my new colleagues.”
Two members of Van der Vliet’s banking & finance team are joining Martijn in his move to BarentsKrans. Paul van de Ven is a senior associate who worked with Van der Vliet at both Buren Legal and Baker McKenzie. Mischa van Uden joined his team in 2023.
Employment law practice is bolstered
Homme ten Have, a seasoned expert in employment law with over 25 years’ experience, joins BarentsKrans on 1 January 2025 from NautaDutilh. He advises corporations, financial institutions and professional service providers, focusing on the legal position of executives and professionals, reorganisations, dealings with trade unions and works councils, and matters relating to acquisitions or divestments.
Ten Have: “I am thrilled to be joining BarentsKrans. Employment law is evolving more rapidly than ever which requires practical solutions to increasingly complex legal issues. BarentsKrans’ renowned employment law practice, which also handles Supreme Court litigation, is well-qualified to respond to these demands. The opening of the Zuidas office makes this the ideal time for me to join BarentsKrans.”
Jesse Zijlma, managing partner: “With the extensive experience and expertise that both partners bring, we are even better positioned to support clients facing complex issues in banking & finance and employment related challenges. Their arrival allows us to expand both practices, creating further opportunities to attract new talent.”
