May 2012 - On Thursday 10 May 2012 Martijn van Maanen gave a guest lecture at Stanford Law School addressing European mass litigation developments, in particular in the area of cartel damages and securities litigation. The lecture formed part of the Seminar on Transnational Litigation led by prof. Deborah Hensler and prof. Ianika Tzankova. Drawing from his experience as plaintiff counsel in the Air Cargo, Sodium Chlorate and Paraffin Wax Cartel cases, and as defence counsel in the Fortis prospectus liability litigation, Martijn focused his presentation on strategic considerations in relation to jurisdiction and conflict of laws. Developments in this area have also featured in the January 2012 issue of
Focus Europe, a publication of The American Lawyer.
April 2012 – Pierre Bos will be speaking in a panel discussion on 'Specific issues in cross-border EU competition law actions brought by multiple claimants' at the Cross-border EU Competition Law Actions Conference at the London school of Economics on Friday 20th April 2012. The conference is being organised within the framework of a research project, which aims to consider whether the European Union should use the current EU private international law framework with regard to cross-border EU competition law claims brought by private parties, or rather whether the EU legislator should set up a Special Regulation dealing with EU competition law proceedings arising in the European context.
February 2012 – As of February 1, 2012 Joost Fanoy has joined BarentsKrans' Antitrust & Public Procurement Practice Group as a senior associate. Joost is specialized in European law in general with a particular focus on European and Dutch competition, public procurement and state aid law. He has acquired considerable experience in assisting companies with European and Dutch cartel and state aid proceedings, merger and joint venture filings with the Dutch Competition Authority (NMa) and the European Commission. January 2012 – Martijn van Ansem has advised the dentists and dental specialists pension fund (SPT) on setting up a new governance structure. The articles of association of both the pension fund and the professional pension association for dentists and dental specialists (BPVT) were amended on 19 January 2012 after the general meeting of the BPVT in Utrecht, in which the amendments were approved.
BarentsKrans has assisted Simpson Manufacturing Co., Inc. (the “Company”) (NYSE:SSD) as Dutch counsel in connection with the purchase of all of the shares of S&P Clever Reinforcement Company AG and S&P Reinforcement International AG (Switzerland) and their subsidiaries (collectively “S&P Clever”) for approx. $61.4 million, subject to postclosing adjustments. S&P Clever manufactures and sells engineered materials for repair, strengthening, and restoration of concrete and masonry construction and has operations in Switzerland, Germany, Portugal, Poland, The Netherlands and Austria.

August 2011 - BarentsKrans advised Gimv on the acquisition of a majority interest in Studiekring, the Dutch market leader in student tutoring in primary and secondary education. June 2011 - Marleen van den Horst was a speaker at the international seminar on Pharmaceutical Patent Litigation on 15 June in Cascais, Portugal. Patent litigators from the US, UK, Germany and the Netherlands gave an overview of patent litigation in their respective jurisdictions and explained how clients can use the differences between the systems to their strategic advantage. The introduction was followed by a international pharmaceutical case study, which enabled the audience to apply the lessons learnt. This seminar preceded the Annual Conference of EGA (European Generic Medicines Association).
April 2011 - Marleen van den Horst acted as a panelist in a session on Supplementary Protection Certificates at the Fordham University Conference on IP and policy in New York on April 28-29 2011.
