Mariëtte Plomp joined BarentsKrans in 2009 after working at another law firm for one year and in the Legal Department of the Netherlands Competition Authority for four years. She is a founder and chair of the Young Competition Lawyers section of the Competition aw Association of the Netherlands. Mariëtte is specialized in European and Dutch competition law and advises on and litigates matters before the Netherlands Competition Authority, the European Commission and the Dutch courts.

Examples of relevant work

Claims Funding International (CFI): Mariëtte is part of a joint competition and corporate litigation team of the firm advising CFI which represents the interests of hundreds European companies in a damage suit against Air France, KLM, and Martinair. 

ActiZ - the Netherlands Nursing-Home and Home-Care Association: Mariëtte was part of a team advising ActiZ in its attempt to reach with the Netherlands Competition Authority a comprehensive settlement of all pending cases in the nursing-home and home-care sector in conjunction with an informal leniency program.

Several nursing-home and home-care operators: advising on and litigating various competition issues, including the successful defense of a major institution in a prolonged cartel investigation.

FOCWA - the Dutch Car Repair Association: advising on and litigating competition issues, including the (ongoing) market investigation of the Netherlands Competition Authority into the car repair segment.

Benschop v. BP: litigating together with the firm’s Real Estate department on behalf of a petrol station owner against BP a non-compete obligation of twenty years contrary to European competition legislation. Upon appeal the Court of Appeal ruled in favour of Benschop.
